Our Shop History
This our shop today at 41 Butts Street.
My grandmother Janet Armstrong originally ran a bakery and catering
business in buildings behind our present shop. |
In 1920 she turned the house in Johnstone Street into a corner
shop selling groceries, sweets and all her home baking and as a base for
outside catering. |
After my grandfather died she married Bob
Isherwood who began traveling the local countryside in our first
van selling groceries and baking from the shop. |
In 1937 the shop acquired the trading name
of Isherwood & Co . In the business at this time was my father
(Jim), my aunt (Jean) and my grandmother.
In 1945, after the war dad continued with another van
traveling around the area. He did this until the present shop was
built in 1950. |
